ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen Skiing Co. is offering apartments in its Sopris View complex to people who were displaced by a fire at an apartment building near Basalt last week.
The fire Dec. 16 displaced 33 people. Firefighters have said a plumber was using a blowtorch to weld two pipes together just before the fire.
Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle (HAN-lee) tells the Aspen Daily News anyone who lived in the burned apartment building can live at Sopris View for one month free. He says the company will work with fire victims who want permanent housing at Sopris View on a case-by-case basis.
Other donations have come in for the fire victims, and Pitkin County commissioners voted Wednesday to give about $4,800 in discretionary funds to help victims.
