No thanks to the slippery paws of Truman the Tiger, the Missouri football team still was able to raise the Independence Bowl trophy Monday night after trouncing North Carolina 41-24 in Shreveport, La. Truman, the Missouri mascot, broke the crystal bowl trophy before the game when he picked it up for a photo op. Columbian Missourian sportswriter Harry Plumer was on the spot and reported via Twitter: “Asked Truman if he broke the trophy. He nodded. Asked him what happened. Threw his paws in the air, then covered his eyes to mimic sobbing.” A replacement crystal bowl was found at a local jeweler before the end of the game.
