A Colorado Springs liquor store was robbed twice, within a two-hour span, the day after Christmas, police said.

A man tried to take off with several bottles of liquor, without paying for the merchandise, at about 6:05 p.m. Monday at J’s Liquor, 31 E. Fillmore Road, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

At about 7:45 p.m. a man jumped the counter at the store, punched a clerk in the eye and stole cash from the register, police said.

In the earlier shoplifting incident, the suspect battled store employees who detained him. Workers suffered minor injuries in the incident, police said.

When police got there the man remained uncooperative, according to the blotter. He tried to dash but was subdued by an officer’s Taser.

Ron Mullens, 36, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and resisting, police said. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor cuts and abrasions suffered in the struggle with employees.

In the second incident a man in a black hoodie entered the store and was talking with a clerk when he jumped the counter, punched the clerk in the left eye and fled with cash from the register.

The robber ran down an alley and remains at large. The clerk was not seriously injured.
