LONDON — Eleven people were in custody and the police appealed for witnesses a day after a fatal stabbing shut down London’s main shopping street.

British newspaper reports said members of rival youth gangs had clashed on Oxford Street over stealing a pair of sneakers. An 18-year-old man ran into a Foot Locker store and at some point re-emerged, then staggered and collapsed.
