BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — President Cristina Fernandez has thyroid cancer, but it has not spread and will be surgically removed next month, a government spokesman said Tuesday.
Spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said the cancer was discovered Dec. 22. He said Fernandez will undergo surgery Jan. 4 and take 20 days of medical leave.
