A memorial fund has been created for Youn Malual, the Sudanese refugee who was shot and killed in the parking lot of his Arapahoe County apartment complex.

Friends and family helped organize the Youn Malual Memorial Fund on Tuesday. Donations can be made at Wells Fargo banks, said said Gatwec Dengpathot, a Sudanese refugee community organizer and friend of the family.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, but have not identified a suspect or a motive in the case, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday, Malual was shot as he returned from work. Deputies arrived at the apartment complex in the 1100 block of South Xenia Street after receiving a 911 call about gun shots.

Deputies found Malual, 43, sitting in the driver’s seat of his gold sports utility vehicle.

Malual’s wallet and debit card were left in his back pants pocket. While authorities have not ruled out any motives behind the shooting, it does not appear to be a botched robbery.

A dark colored SUV was seen leaving the the complex shortly after the shooting.

Six years ago, Malual and his family moved to Denver after fleeing civil war in what is now South Sudan.

Anyone who wants to make a donation can call Wells Fargo at 303-320-5555 for more information.
