DENVER—Denver goalie Juho Olkinuora made 42 saves as Denver beat Union 3-1 in a men’s college hockey game on Friday.
Olkinuora had 16 saves in the second period and 17 more in the third for the 15th-ranked Pioneers (9-7-3). Tenth-ranked Union (9-4-5) had a 43-28 shots-on-goal advantage.
All four goals were scored in the first period, including Jeremy Walsh’s tally for Union at 14:45. That was the only mistake of the night by Olkinuora.
Drew Shore and Joey LaLeggia had power-play goals 2:22 apart and Shawn Ostrow scored at 11:47 for a 3-0 Denver lead.
Colin Stevens started in goal for Union but was pulled after giving up LaLeggia’s goal. Stevens had two saves. He was replaced by Troy Grosenick, who had 23 saves.
Union had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped and fell to 7-2-3 on the road this season.
