An injured motorist spent about 12 hours on a bank of the frozen Eagle River this morning after his SUV crashed.

The Colorado State Patrol said 29-year-old Daryl Rudolph suffered a broken right leg when his Ford Explorer crashed early today and then rolled onto the frozen Eagle River between Eagle and Wolcott on U.S. 6.

Rudolph, from Littleton, crawled to safety on the river bank, but he waited there about 12 hours before a passerby spotted him around 2 p.m.

Rudolph was transported to Vail Valley Medical Center with what is considered to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The state patrol said alcohol and/or drugs are being investigated as possible contributing factors to the crash.
