LOVELAND, Colo.—The Larimer Humane Society says a report of two dogs found shot and skinned near Loveland has turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Officials said Tuesday that necropsies conducted on the animals indicate they were not dogs but coyotes.

Landowners can kill coyotes without a license if they are threatening property or livestock.

The animals were found on Dec. 28 and Dec. 31 in unincorporated Larimer County. One had been beheaded.
