A viking-styled winter
Sunday. Welcome winter, Viking-style, at Ullr Fest in Breckenridge. Named after a Norse god, the lighthearted festival brings fun events to the ski town throughout the week. On Sunday, for example, Ullr lovers can join in an ice-skating party from 1 to 3 p.m. to benefit a scholarship fund for high-school seniors. Monday’s event is a Nordic party and bonfire, starting at 5:30 p.m., when the Ullr King and Queen will be crowned. Other Ullr fun includes a highly silly parade, a chili cookoff and the undignified Ullympics. Activities run daily through Jan. 14 at locations throughout Breckenridge. Many events are free. Visit for full details, including a schedule of events.
Grimm-styled, ecology-minded fairy tales
Through Aug. 25. The year gets off to a whimsical start in “Recycled Fairy Tales” at the Buell Children’s Museum in Pueblo. Using the stories of the Brothers Grimm as a starting point, the exhibit weaves together art and ecology in kid-friendly fashion. Youngsters can dress in costume, write their own storybooks and add a few poetic drops to the “River of Words.” There are four “chapters” in the exhibit, changing every other month. Chapter one is “Red Goes Green” (think Little Red Riding Hood): Join Pueblo artist Dorothy Mendoza as she creates an ecologically minded art installation for the museum throughout January, plus other special events. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Buell Children’s Museum at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, 210 N. Santa Fe Ave., Pueblo; 719-295-7200. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for military and children.
Making music with “Oliver!” and company

Familiar songs punctuate the narrative, including “Food, Glorious Food” and “Consider Yourself.” 7 p.m. Saturdays, 4 p.m. Sundays; 7 p.m. Jan. 13. The PACE Center, 20000 Pikes Peak Ave., Parker; 303-805-6800. Tickets are $18, with discounts available for seniors, students and children; call or visit to buy in advance.
