Former Denver police chief Gerald Whitman we be honored as a good neighbor by the Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods group on Jan. 12.
Whitman had served as chief from 2000 until Denver, when he was replaced by Robert White, Whitman remains with the department as a captain and has been Denver law enforcement officer since 1982.
The neighborhood group will present Whitman the Tom Knorr Award for Community Service, “in appreciation of his enduring dedication to serve and protect, for his innovative leadership of the Denver Police Department, and for creating the community policing model in Greater Capitol Hill and Denver.”
Several state and city officials are expected to attend to laud his service.
Whitman is one of several set to receive a Good Neighbor Award from the community group at its annual general membership meeting at St. John’s Cathedral at 1350 Washington St. beginning at 7 p.m.
