Gushing with great style
Waterworks, a maker of fine, European-influenced kitchen and bathroom hardware and accessories, has relaunched its website and online store to make it easier for consumers to navigate trends and glean renovation ideas. Looking more like a shelter magazine now than an online retailer, this new site also includes a glossary where do-it-yourselfers can learn about such details as “acid-resistant glaze” and a “jamb bullnose,” and includes product picks and design advice from the company’s kitchen and bath experts.. To top it all off
After generations of outdoor exposure, the roof of Durango’s historic Peterson House — believed to have been constructed by and for D&RG railroad employees in the 1880s — had disintegrated. The house is now part of the Animas Museum complex, where plans are underway to restore it and open it to the public next year. Recently, the restoration team selected DaVinci Fancy Shake roofing tiles for the update. These tiles are crafted using 100 percent pure virgin resins, and are 100 percent recyclable. In a statement from DaVinci, Tony Whittle of Durango’s TL Roofing said the polymer tiles were a solid long-term investment for the museum, where administrators are now admiring the “spot on” period look of the new roof. Decorating “to delight”
Everyone has a favorite color; most people who fancy good design also have a thing for patterns and textures. But one major difference between professionals and do-it-yourselfers is the former’s training lends them the confidence to whimsically fuse colors and materials into a coherent sense of comfort and style. Meanwhile, the rest of us often quake at the challenge of simply selecting wall colors, much less forging a stylish mix. Enter New York City-based designer Katie Ridder and her lush new coffee-table book “Rooms” ($50, Vendome Press). Ridder has developed an international following for her vivid, artful, detailed spaces, and her book is an inspiring decorating primer.
