PULLMAN, Wash. — Freshman Jen Reese recorded her first career double-double and the Colorado women fought back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat Washington State 57-56 on Saturday at Beasley Coliseum.

The Buffaloes (13-1, 2-1 Pac-12) handed Washington State (9-7, 3-1) its first league loss.

Reese scored 12 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds. She did most of her damage in the second half, scoring eight points to help CU overcome a 46-35 deficit with 11:04 remaining.

CU trailed 56-54 with 1:22 remaining. The Buffs tied the game on a jumper by Lexy Kresl. Brandi Thomas missed a shot at the other end and the Cougars fouled CU’s Meagan Malcolm-Peck, who made the first of two free throws to provide the final margin.

South Alabama 57, Denver 51•MOBILE, ala. —  Despite a 19-point, seven-rebound effort from Kaetlyn Murdoch, the Pioneers (10-8, 2-2 Sun Belt) fell to the Jaguars (9-6, 1-2) in Sun Belt Conference play.

Emiko Smith hit a three to tie the game at 44-44 with 4:54 remaining in regulation, but the Jaguars pulled away with a 12-4 run in the final 4:33.

Longwood 59, Air Force 48 •AIR FORCE ACADEMY —  In their final nonconference game of the season, the Falcons (5-10) fell to the Lancers (3-15) at Clune Arena.

Megan O’Neil was the lone Air Force scorer in double figures, finishing with 10 points, and Camille Thompson added nine.

Crystal Smith led four Longwood players in double figures, finishing with 24 points.

Northern Colorado 68, Sacramento St. 58•GREELEY —  The Bears made a season-high 14 3-pointers and held the Hornets ((7-9, 1-2) starters to 29 points in their second conference win of the season.

Northern Colorado (10-6, 2-1 Big Sky) was lead by D’shara Strange’s 21 points and 14 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Molly Duehn had a career-best 14 points, making 4-of-5 3-point shots.

Colo. Christian 67, Metro St. 59 •LAKEWOOD —  The nationally No. 2-ranked Roadrunners (12-1, 8-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) were upset by the Cougars (6-9, 4-5).

Christina Whitelaw led CCU with 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting, and added nine rebounds, five assists and four steals, helping force the Roadrunners into 16 turnovers that led to 15 CCU points.

Men

N. Colorado 61, Sacramento St. 53•SACRAMENTO, calif. —  Tevin Svihovec scored 16 points and Emmanuel Addo 10 to lead the Bears (5-9, 2-1 Big Sky) to victory against the Hornets (5-9, 0-3).

John Dickson scored 12 points for the Hornets.

Metro St. 73, Colorado Christian 59 •LAKEWOOD —  The top-ranked Roadrunners (13-1, 8-1) topped the Cougars (2-11, 1-8) on the road after dropping their first game of the season Friday at Colorado Mines.

Coach Derrick Clark sent a message to his normal lineup after Friday’s loss, starting reserves Sam Porter, Nicholas Kay and Tyler Cooper with normal starters Paul Brotherson and Jonathan Morse.

Kay finished with a career-high 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds for his second career double-double.

Mines 80, Regis 56 •GOLDEN —  The Orediggers’ Dale Minschwaner had a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds in 12th-ranked Mines (11-1, 7-1 RMAC) victory over the Rangers (4-8, 1-7).


Ross, Washington hold off Utes

SALT LAKE CITY  — Terrence Ross scored 14 points and hit two free throws with 9 seconds left to help Washington outlast Utah 57-53 on Saturday.

Desmond Simmons collected 10 rebounds off the bench to help the Huskies (9-6, 3-1 Pac-12) bounce back from a blowout loss to Colorado two nights earlier.

Josh Watkins scored 18 and Cedric Martin 11 for the Utes (4-11, 1-2), who threatened down to the final seconds. The Associated Press
