BROOMFIELD — Is there anything sweeter than a basketball rivalry? Well, there is: When you have a meeting of arch- rivals the caliber of the Legacy and Broomfield girls teams.
The neighborhood showdown between state powers Saturday at Legacy played out as expected — competitive to the very end. When the final buzzer sounded, Class 5A’s third-ranked Lightning had a 60-53 victory.
Steady free-throw shooting down the stretch enabled Legacy to defeat Class 4A’s second-ranked Eagles. It was Broomfield’s first loss since a Jan. 29, 2011, game against Holy Family — a span of 19 games.
