The University of Colorado/Spencer Nelson Invitational at Eldora was postponed Sunday because of unsatisfactory ski racing conditions, race officials said.
“There were unfavorable snow conditions that were putting skiers in a little bit of danger,” CU coach Richard Rokos said. “We wanted to put a fair race on. We are obligated to excellence and in terms of putting on a race, that rule absolutely applies.”
The plan is to run the slalom races for the CU Invitational Friday before the start of the Denver Invitational at Winter Park. A final decision is expected in the following two days. If that plan doesn’t work, the races will be made up later this season in Alaska or Montana.
Falcons’ wrestlers fall
Air Force fell to Western Wrestling Conference opponent Northern Iowa 33-12.
The Falcons earned falls from Cole VonOhlen, ranked fifth in the nation at 149 pounds, and Clayton Gable, who posted the fastest fall of his career, pinning UNI’s Onni Prestidge in just 29 seconds in the 174-pound bout.
CU expects to add a women’s sport.
Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn told the Daily Camera that an announcement on CU adding a women’s sport is due to come in the spring.
Bohn declined to reveal which sport will be added, but competition is due to begin in the 2013-14 academic year.
