With 128 offerings, the Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival breakfast boasts the largest oatmeal-toppings bar in the world. But after last year’s festival, several diners pointed out an ingredient that was sorely missingbacon.

While fruits and nuts are still among the most popular toppings at the breakfast — which emphasizes a healthy diet and lifestyle — past toppings have included such guilty pleasures as gummy bears and candy-bar bites. So why not bacon? After all, said Lafayette Chamber of Commerce event coordinator Pat Vero, bacon goes with everything.

“After last year, we asked people to give us feedback on what toppings they’d like to see this year,” Vero said. “Bacon was actually the biggest one, by far.”

So, by popular demand, bacon will find its way to the toppings bar at Pioneer Bilingual Elementary School when the Oatmeal Festival hits Old Town Lafayette for the 16th year on Saturday. Daily Camera
