CORVALLIS, ore. — Chasson Randle’s layup with 37 seconds left in the fourth overtime provided the winning points Saturday night in Stanford’s 103-101 victory over Oregon State.
Randle had a game-high 24 points for Stanford (13-3, 3-1 Pac-12), which avoided a conference road sweep after losing two days earlier at Oregon. An off-balance 3-pointer by Oregon State’s Roberto Nelson that would have won the game was off the mark.
Nelson and Jared Cunningham scored 19 points apiece for Oregon State (11-5, 1-3).
Stanford, which played its longest game in program history, led 100-95 after Randle scored the first five points of the fourth overtime. The Cardinal didn’t give up the lead again.
Stanford’s Josh Owens appeared to have won the game at the end of regulation with his put-back at the buzzer, but game officials huddled in front of a TV monitor and decided his shot came with no time left. Oregon State’s Angus Brandt missed two free throws with 24 seconds left in regulation.
Randle had a chance to win the game in the second overtime, but his short jumper was blocked by Eric Moreland just before the buzzer.
Stanford’s Anthony Brown tied the game on a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the third overtime. Oregon State missed two shots — both from the outside — in the closing seconds of that extra period.
