BOULDER, Colo.—In-state tuition for full-time University of Colorado students could rise nearly 16 percent next year under a proposed new tuition model.

Currently, full-time students pay for 11.25 credit hours per semester at $341 per credit hour, but they can take up to 18 credits per semester.

The Daily Camera reports ( ) university regents were briefed Wednesday on a proposal to start charging for 12.5 credit hours and raise the cost of a credit hour 4 percent to account for inflation. That means in-state tuition for full-time students in the College of Arts and Sciences on the Boulder campus would increase from $7,672 this year to $8,875 next year.

By 2014-15, CU would charge full-time students for 15 credit hours per semester.

Regents won’t vote on tuition rates until the spring.
