The City Council affirmed its moratorium on oil and gas drilling applications by a 7-0 vote Tuesday night, deciding against a suggestion by Councilwoman Katie Witt to drop it in favor of a “gentleman’s agreement” instead.
Witt said she thought the 120-day moratorium could lead to a rushed update of Longmont’s oil and gas regulations and that the city was taking too confrontational a tone with the oil and gas companies.
“We don’t want to send the message that we don’t want to deal with you at all,” she said.
Councilman Gabe Santos disagreed, saying a lot of communities were taking a time out to look over their rules.
