ASPEN, Colo.—Pitkin County commissioners are asking the federal Bureau of Land Management to allow individual management plans for the Crown and other recreation hot spots.

The federal review is the first for western Colorado holdings since 1986. It will affect more than 27,000 acres of the county, including popular recreation areas.

According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), local governments want the right of first right of refusal in acquiring federal lands when the bureau is considering sales or land swaps.

Public comments on the plan are due by Jan. 17.
