John Walker, a three-star defensive back from Woodson High School in Washington, committed to Colorado, reported Thursday.

Wyoming rewards Christensen. Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen is getting a new five-year contract that will run through 2016 and includes total compensation of $1.2 million per year.

DU hires Mahoney. The University of Denver hired Colorado State associate head coach Jesse Mahoney to be its new volleyball coach.

Mahoney helped the Rams reach the NCAA Tournament in all seven of his seasons in Fort Collins.

Garmin team changes name.  Team Garmin-Cervelo has changed its name to Team Garmin-Barracuda after securing sponsorship from Barracuda Networks, an international content security network.
The Boulder-based team will debut its new name and sponsorship at Australia’s Tour Down Under starting Sunday and continuing through Jan. 22. John Henderson, The Denver Post

Buffs close gap in ski meet.  The University of Colorado ski team closed the gap on leader Utah, and Denver moved into third place at the halfway point of the CU Invitational/Spencer Nelson Memorial at Breckenridge. Westminster (Utah) College’s Petter Brenna won the men’s slalom, with DU’s Trevor Philip in second and CU’s Fletcher McDonald fourth. With four nordic events to go, Utah leads CU 469-440. DU has 386 points.
