Joanne Reid won the women’s 5-kilometer freestyle nordic race Friday, but Reid and the Colorado ski team fell further behind leader Utah at the CU Invitational-Spencer Nelson Memorial meet in Steamboat Springs.

Utah’s Didrik Smith and Miles Havlik finished first and second in the men’s 10K freestyle, helping the Utes increase their lead to 64 points over CU (702-638) with six of eight races completed. The University of Denver is third with 558 points.

Goodman, Krieger honored. Drew Goodman was selected Colorado sportscaster of the year for the ninth time in 10 years, and Denver Post columnist Dave Krieger was named Colorado sportswriter of the year.

Goodman is entering his 11th season as the Rockies’ play-by-play voice on television. He also has called CU and DU basketball games.

Goodman and Krieger will be honored in June at the 53rd annual National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association awards banquet in Salisbury, N.C.

Huskers hold off Pioneers. The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team was fewer than three points away from beating the nation’s sixth-ranked team, but Nebraska pulled out a 197.375-195.225 victory over the 20th-ranked Pioneers.

DU’s Melodie Pulgarin-Linero tied for second on the vault with 9.900 points — 0.025 behind the Cornhuskers’ Janelle Gilbin. DU’s Louise Mercer tied for third on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.850, Pulgarin-Linero tied for fourth on the balance beam (9.850) and Mercer finished fifth in floor exercise with a score of 9.825.
