After four alpine events Sunday at Winter Park, Utah’s ski team led the University of Denver Invitational with 456 points. Defending national champion Colorado (429 points) was second, DU (374) third, New Mexico (361) fourth and Alaska-Anchorage (347) fifth.

The meet concludes this week with nordic events at Devil’s Thumb Ranch near Tabernash.

DU freshman Trevor Philp of Calgary, Alberta, was the runner-up in men’s slalom Sunday. DU freshman Espen Lysdahl placed fourth. CU sophomore Fletcher McDonald finished fifth. CU senior Erika Ghent was the runner-up in women’s slalom.

Colorado Mesa hires coach. Russ Martin is the new head football coach at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction. Martin was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Nebraska-Kearney the last eight years, helping the Antelopes win four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships. He is a former Black Hills State head coach.
