BOULDER — A diabetic was indicted by a Boulder County grand jury on three counts of first-degree sexual assault after prosecutors allege he drugged a woman with his insulin medication and then raped her after the two met at a Pearl Street bar.

According to the indictment, Frederick L. “Rick” Allen, 31, met the victim at the Sundown Saloon in February 2011 and offered to walk her home when the bar closed. A roommate later found the victim nude on her bed covered by a sheet. She appeared to have thrown up, was sweaty and had trouble focusing. Doctors said she had dangerously low blood-sugar levels and was suffering from severe hypoglycemia, most likely due to an insulin injection. They also noticed signs of sexual assault as well as abrasions on her limbs. Court records show Allen has an extensive criminal history. Daily Camera
