ASPEN, Colo.—The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 30-year-old man who was killed when he crashed into a tree at the Aspen Highlands ski resort.

The victim was identified as Gabrial Hilliard, of Aspen. The man was wearing a helmet when he crashed and died Wednesday despite efforts by ski patrollers to revive him.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said Thursday a 43-year-old man has become the first avalanche fatality of the season after being buried by a snow slide Wednesday outside the boundaries of the Snowmass ski area. That victim has not been identified.
