A steady trickle of bike commuters stopped for breakfast at Ideal Market at Broadway and Alpine Avenue in Boulder as the city’s fourth annual Winter Bike to Work Day got underway this morning.

Ryan Broshar, of north Boulder, regularly bikes to the bus station in downtown Boulder and then takes a bus to Golden. His wife, Molly Broshar, a teacher in Louisville, normally takes the family’s one car, but joined her husband for Bike to Work Day.

“It’s not that intimidating,” Ryan Broshar said of biking in the winter. “You just need the right clothes and the right protection.”

Eleven local businesses offered free breakfast to cyclists from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The forecast of wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour was a little daunting for some cyclists. The promise of free breakfast and camaraderie helped get them on the road.
