DENVER—A former Xcel Energy Inc. transmission lineman who was paralyzed after falling from a rotting Qwest Communications International Inc. utility pole has reached a confidential settlement with the phone company.

An attorney for Andrew Blood and a spokesman for CenturyLink, which acquired Denver-based Qwest last year, confirmed to The Denver Post ( ) that a settlement was reached. They didn’t disclose details.

Blood’s accident was in 2004 in Adams County. A Denver jury had awarded Blood and his wife nearly $40 million in damages. Qwest asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case but ended up settling last week.
