A Boulder district judge this morning set bond at $100,000 for Michael Clark, a Summit County man accused of killing Marty Grisham in 1994.

Judge Thomas Mulvahill acknowledged the bond is lower than usually set for murder suspects in Boulder County, but said the fact that Clark knew he was under investigation for months and made no attempt to flee and that he has not been arrested on any offenses since he pleaded guilty to forgery and theft in the aftermath of the Grisham killing made a lower bond appropriate.

Grisham, then the city’s director of information services, was shot four times in the face and chest by an unknown assailant on the night of Nov. 1, 1994, when he answered a knock on the door. The crime shocked the community in its seeming randomness.

Clark, a friend of Grisham’s daughter, pleaded guilty to theft and forgery for stealing checks from Grisham, and investigators considered him a suspect at the time. However, he always denied involvement in the shooting.
