Caley Dow recorded her third straight double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds to pace Metro State to a 78-51 win over Fort Lewis in a historic women’s game at the Auraria Event Center on Friday night.

The matchup between Metro, ranked No. 5 in Division II, and No. 4 Fort Lewis was the first game involving two top-five teams in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference history.

The 27-point margin was the largest over a ranked opponent in Metro’s history, and the victory moved the Roadrunners (15-1, 11-1) into a first-place tie in the RMAC with Fort Lewis (14-2, 11-1).

Brandi Valencia led Metro with 13 points.

Colorado Mines 58, Colorado Mesa 54

GOLDEN — Angie Charchalis made two free throws with eight seconds left to lift the Orediggers (6-12, 5-7 RMAC) past the Mavericks (8-8, 6-6). Effo Baker made a layup with nine seconds left to bring Mesa within two points, six seconds after Tory Langas gave Mines a four-point lead with two free throws.

Men

Metro St. 72, Ft. Lewis 51

Metro (16-1, 11-1 RMAC), ranked No. 4, sprinted to a 14-0 lead, and the Skyhawks (8-8, 6-6) never seriously threatened.

Mines 66, Mesa 48

GOLDEN — Trevor Ritchie had 20 points for No. 12 Mines (14-2, 10-2 RMAC), which used a 10-4 run to close the first half and open an 11-point lead.
