Arvada police have arrested a suspect they dubbed the “Sunrise Bandit.”
William Spraggins, 41, of Arvada was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a traffic stop at West 64th Avenue and Quail Street, according to an Arvada Police Department media release.
Police said Spraggins fought with police during the traffic stop and he was armed at the time.
He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery among other charges.
Investigators suspect Spraggins of at least three recent robberies: Jan. 7 at King Soopers, 12350 W. 64th Ave.; Jan. 12, at King Soopers, 9731 W. 58th Ave.; and Monday at Ralston Food Mart, 10440 W. 64th Ave.
In each of the three incidents, which happened in the morning, the robber approached clerks and demanded money after brandishing a handgun, police said.
The case remains under investigation and Arvada police are talking with other departments in the area to see whether they can connect the suspect to other robberies.
