GIGLIO, Italy —New evidence emerged Wednesday that suggested the captain of the Costa Concordia had been repeatedly ordered by superiors to deviate from its course Jan. 13. In leaked phone transcripts of his conversations with an unidentified official from Costa Cruises, which is the ship’s operator, recorded while the captain was in police custody, he is heard saying Costa Cruises managers had insisted on the changed course.
The claims by captain Francesco Schettino, 51, have been challenged by Costa Cruises, a subsidiary of the Carnival Corp., which has called Schettino the main culprit.
Officials identified three more of the recovered bodies from the stricken ship Wednesday, all German.
