BOULDER — A 20-year-old University of Colorado student has been issued a ticket for suspicion of false reporting to authorities after telling Boulder police she was attacked in the University Hill area Sunday.
Nina Fiorillo received the summons Thursday. She faces up to six months in jail and a maximum $750 fine.
Fiorillo told police Sunday that she was walking alone in the 1100 block of University Avenue just after midnight when she was grabbed by behind and assaulted by a knife-wielding man.
But according to a police report, investigators began noticing discrepancies in Fiorillo’s story. Police did not find a record of the call she had supposedly made to her friend, and Fiorillo and her friend had a hard time describing the suspect to dispatchers but gave a clear description to responding officers just minutes later.
