Victoria Azarenka’s win over Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open final Saturday elevated her to No. 1 and also forced a shift in the women’s tennis rankings. In rankings that will take effect Monday, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will remain at No. 2, followed by Sharapova, who moves up one spot to third. Caroline Wozniacki, who held the No. 1 ranking for nearly 67 weeks before losing in the quarterfinals, drops to fourth. U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur, who lost in the first round at Melbourne Park, moves up one spot to fifth despite the poor result at her home major.
