The Aurora City Council favors extending a property tax to help pay for transportation and infrastructure improvements.

At a work session Monday night, the council agreed to move forward with a proposal to ask voters in November to extend the tax. The tax now costs someone who owns a home valued at $200,000 about $32 a year and raises about $5.8 million annually.

Still to be worked out is what specifically the money would help fund. The council would need to formally approve the measure before it could go to voters this fall. Input from a variety of areas will be sought before a final decision is made.
