GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Mesa County jail inmate is in trouble after he attended his father’s funeral with a judge’s approval.
Community Corrections officials say 28-year-old Benjamin Christ did not have their permission and they canceled his participation in a program that lets inmates out of jail to work and attend treatment programs.
Christ was serving time for possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of a weapon while intoxicated
Christ’s mother says family members agreed to postpone funeral services nearly a month for her late ex-husband so Christ could get permission from authorities to take a furlough from Mesa County Community Corrections.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), Christ was warned the program did not allow furloughs, but he went anyway.
