British songstress and her band performed a brief but wonderful early evening set that made for a unique experience at the on Sunday.

The 5 p.m. show, originally scheduled for the Bluebird Theater, was moved to the Larimer for logistical reasons. With a hastily assembled collection of plastic chairs and tables set up in front of the stage, the classic punk rock venue revealed itself as the ideal locale to hear the tasteful set of mellow pop.

Beginning with original tunes “Come To Me High,” “Am I Forgiven,” “Take Me As I Am,” and “Slow,” the group (filled out by a keyboardist, lead acoustic guitarist and percussionist on the cajón box drum) offered gentle accompaniment to Rumer’s confessional songwriting and stunningly gorgeous vocals.

To make the affair even more intimate, the singer charmed the audience with her playful interaction. She offered inspiration for some of the more personal songs such as “Thankful” (about her mother passing from breast cancer) and showed a grounded approach to her recent international success with star struck tales of meeting idols such as Aretha Franklin and Elton John.

Rounding out the set were well-chosen covers such as the Sandpipers’ “Come Saturday Morning,” Laura Nyro’s “American Dove,” and an upbeat take on Gil Scott Heron’s “Lady Day and John Coltrane.”

Following the show, the artist, whose album “Seasons of my Soul” had that very day gone to No. 1 on iTunes, headed straight to the merchandise booth to sign autographs, take photos and chat up her fans.
