It’s one thing to get pinch hit for during a baseball game, but imagine the indignity of getting pinch hit for on your own baseball card … by a rodent! In the 2012 Topps Series 1 baseball card set that’s launching Wednesday, most of Skip Schumaker’s card features the rally squirrel that dashed across the St. Louis Cardinals player’s path during Game 4 of the NLDS last October. Schumaker can’t even take solace in knowing some of the cards will feature his face, as the squirrel “short-print” variation undoubtedly will be more coveted by collectors.
