ASPEN, Colo.—Carbondale voters have rejected a mixed-use development for a 140,000-square-foot village.

The Village at Crystal River would have forced the closing of a grocery store so a new, 58,000-square-foot grocery store could be built. The development would have included other retail outlets and homes to be built on a 24-acre pasture near Carbondale.

According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), preliminary results of a nearly month-long mail-in election showed more than 1,200 people voted no, compared to about 670 in support.
