LONGMONT — — This was one report that couldn’t be considered dry.
On Tuesday, the City Council approved a study on Longmont’s future water supply and demand. According to the report, at “buildout” — about 108,000 people — city water supplies would last through nearly all of a seven-year drought. And even that “nearly all” goes away once the Windy Gap project is finished, said Ken Huson, the city’s water resources administrator.
The study estimates Longmont’s buildout demand at 32,700 acre-feet of water, which includes allowances for items such as higher irrigation demand due to rising temperatures. The planned Chimney Hollow Reservoir in the Windy Gap project would allow Longmont the use of about another 2,500 acre-feet per year.
