 Average retail gasoline prices in Denver have risen 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.98 cents per gallon on Sunday.

This compares with the national average that increased 3 cents per gallon last week. The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in the United States is now $3.43 a gallon, according to the gasoline price website .

The price of a gallon of gasoline in Denver Sunday was 4.8 cents higher than the same day one year ago and 1.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has increased 10.2 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 31.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said the national average has continued an upward trend.

DeHaan said gasoline prices tend to start moving significantly higher toward the end of February and into mid-March.

GasBuddy operates and more than 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at more than 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada.
