DENVER—The Arapahoe County district attorney is asking a grand jury to investigate the police shooting of an extortion suspect in Aurora.

According to the Denver Post ( ), district attorney Carol Chambers is not saying why she wants a grand jury to look at the case, but Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates says he supports the decision.

Authorities say 49-year-old Juan Contreras was shot three times during a confrontation last July. Aurora police say the officer was trying to arrest Contreras for demanding $100 to return a set of car keys a woman had lost earlier and Contreras had a knife.
