Center fielder and Skyline High School alumna Erin Geddis and right fielder Lindsey Smith each had four hits as the Northern Colorado softball team opened its season Thursday with a 13-4 victory over Southern University in Baton Rouge, La.
Freshman Kelci Cheney got the win in her Bears debut, giving up two earned runs, 10 hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Smith and left fielder Morgan Yuhas each had two RBIs. Yuhas doubled twice.
CU’s Lewis fourth in pentathlon. University of Colorado freshman Brittany Lewis had a personal-best 3,637 points to finish fourth Thursday in the pentathlon at the Iowa State Classic and set personal records with her marks in the 800 meters (2:21.63) and the shot put (36-4¼). CU volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson won the event with a personal-best 3,905 points.
Uhlaender eighth in skeleton. Katie Uhlaender of Breckenridge was eighth in the season’s final women’s World Cup skeleton race in Calgary, Alberta. Britain’s Shelley Rudman tied for third to surpass Germany’s Marion Thees for the overall season title.
