Police arrested 274 people over the Super Bowl weekend in Colorado on suspicion of drinking and driving.

“Super Bowl weekend DUI arrest numbers are down for the second year in a row,” according to a joint media release from the Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado State Patrol.

There were “no alcohol-related fatalities” in the state over the weekend of the NFL championship game.

More than 66 law enforcement agencies participated this year in the Super Bowl “Heat Is On” enforcement program.

The weekend total this year is down from 2010 when 371 DUI arrests were made; and 2011 when 303 were arrested.

The Heat Is On DUI crackdown ran from Friday, Feb. 3 to Monday Feb. 6. Of the arrests, 125 were taken into custody on Super Bowl Sunday. The release said 33 suspects were arrested in Denver, with 26 in Colorado Springs and 21 in Aurora.

Authorities believe the numbers may be down this year because wintery weather kept many people at home and off of the roads, according to the release.

The next coordinated DUI enforcement program will be over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, Friday March 16 through Monday March 19.
