Columbine football was honored Friday by the MaxPreps Tour of Champions.

The Rebels, who won the Class 5A title in December with a 41-31 victory over Jefferson County League rival Lakewood at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, won their fifth title since 1999 and were feted at halftime of a boys basketball game.

Presented by the Army National Guard, the tour, which began in 2005, cited Columbine on one of 50 stops nationally. Earlier, 4A Valor Christian was featured by the tour.

The Rebels were 14-0 in 2011, matching the mark of the school’s 2002 champions.

They also won titles in 1999, just months after the school massacre, 2000 and 2006, which also was played at Mile High.

Andy Lowry has coached all five champions.
