BRIGHTON — Dave Young is looking to succeed his boss as the Adams County district attorney. Young, the district’s chief trial deputy, plans to formally announce his candidacy next week, according to a statement released Tuesday. Young has been a prosecutor for more than 20 years and was recruited to join the 17th Judicial District — Broomfield and Adams counties — in 2005 by Don Quick, the current district attorney, the statement said.
Young has served as Quick’s second in command and has had overall responsibility for the management of the DA’s office.
Quick — a Democrat — wanted to run for a third term, but voters in November rejected the idea.
Young has prosecuted several high-profile cases in Adams County, including the recent trials in the Quality Paving and Resurfacing scandal, which involved former company and county officials.
An Adams County Republican Party spokesman said Wednesday that the GOP has yet to put up an opponent for Young.
Young will make his official announcement at 6 p.m. Tuesdayat Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City. The event is open to the public.
