RED CLIFF, Colo.—The mayor of Red Cliff is hoping the federal government will help with some of the costs of coping with a water emergency that shut off water to the town.

Mayor Ramon Montoya says the town does not have the estimated $60,000 to pay for repairs and hopes the federal government will help out. So far, the city has not filed an official request for financial aid for the four-day shutdown.

According to the Vail Daily ( ), some customers had to hire welders to thaw out their pipes.

The water district for the community of more than 300 people about 100 miles west of Denver traced the problem to frozen water main that connects the water plant to the town.
