After a 10-day quarantine, the Denver Animal Shelter on Saturday released Max, the Argentine mastiff that bit 9News anchor Kyle Dyer on Feb. 8.

Max’s animal-shelter stay was mandatory after the incident.

“It’s like having a birth in the family … like picking up a brand-new puppy,” said Max’s owner, Michael Robinson. “We’re excited to have him at home again. He’s still our baby.”

Dyer was interviewing Robinson and a firefighter, who saved Max after he fell into a frozen pond Feb. 7, when the dog bit her in the face.

Robinson said he felt gratified that 5,000 people signed a petition to spare his dog’s life and to have him freed, although the only definite penalty Max faced was the mandatory 10-day quarantine as a medical precaution.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support,” he said.

He said he was eager to bring Max home to get “on the road to recovery, like Kyle is on the road to recovery.”
