A 40-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in an apparent road rage case in Colorado Springs.

Police were called to a traffic collision at about 3:05 p.m. Monday in the area of North Union Boulevard and Constitution Avenue, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Traffic investigators said a silver Pontiac Grand Prix swerved into the left lane, cutting off a silver Chevrolet Corvette and striking the Corvette’s right front fender. The Corvette spun out of control and came to a stop. No injuries were reported.

Before the collision, the Pontiac had pulled up along side of the Corvette and swerved toward it, but did not hit it. The Pontiac got in front of the Corvette and slowed “as if to further aggravate the situation,” police said.

When the Corvette attempted to pass, the driver of the Pontiac swerved and clipped the Chevy, police said.

The driver of the Pontiac fled the collision.

Investigators learned of a similar incident earlier in the day involving the same Pontiac, the blotter said, which also led to a traffic collision. The driver also fled the scene in that case.

Police identified the driver of the Pontiac as Craig Alan Zautke.

Zautke was arrested in eastern Colorado near Limon “on his way out of town,” police said.

He was held on suspicion of attempted second degree assault. Other charges are possible.
