FIRESTONE – — Firestone trustees approved seven new gas wells in the town Wednesday night, to be placed southeast of Frontier Street and Grant Avenue.
Work is expected to begin May 20 with the wells brought online by September, according to Elizabeth Smith of Anadarko Petroleum, who spoke for its subsidiary, the Kerr-McGee oil and gas company.
Waste will be handled through a closed-loop drilling system — which allows drilling fluid to be re-used and any wastes to be stored for removal from the site — rather than dumping it into an onsite storage pit.
The land is zoned for agriculture and sits just east of “historic Firestone,” the old town.
