BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder officials are looking at the possibility of allowing the entire community to buy the popular Eco Pass, which allows unlimited rides on Regional Transportation District buses.
The Daily Camera ( ) reports expanding the pass to all residents—or even anyone who works in Boulder—has been a long-standing goal of the city’s transportation master plan. The pass currently gives employees of participating businesses and residents of participating neighborhoods unlimited rides. Nearly 40,000 residents and workers have an Eco Pass.
But if the pass were expanded, the question remains on how the costs should be shared. RTD officials have expressed concerns about whether the existing program covers its costs.
City officials say the idea is more feasible now because RTD is implementing an electronic bus pass program that will track ridership.
